The one and only Lux Interior
The best singer possibly ever in my opinion has died at the age of 62. His bad heart got the best of him on Feb. 4th in Glendale. With his beloved Poison Ivy by his side. Together they formed thee most unique, raw, and just plain dirty band ever The Cramps. I remember my first encounter with them was in about 1993 or 1994. I saw their video on Beavis and Butthead of all places. It was Bikini Girls With Machine Guns. It blew me away. I was only a tween at the time and I realized the bad ass shit they were doing. Ill never forget seeing Poison Ivy in a tiny bikini with a machine gun. Ya know now that I think about it that could very well be the moment i chose the musical path that I did. I was hooked. Lux had this hypnotizing quality about him. You just want to watch him and see how he moves and what he is gonna do next. The first time i saw them he hung himself naked onstage while attempting to sing. And Ivy just stood there in a bra and hot pants with fishnets and heels playing her guitar calmly with very little movement, she almost looked bored as if she was doing us a favor by being there. She must have been like 50 or so at the time and had the body of a firm 25 year old. I was just blown away by the whole performance. If you know me you know the influence The Cramps have on my daily life. I refrence them and their songs constantly and compare most bands to them. Not many rank up there with them but a few are close. Now I will never see them again. I am in a state of denial at the moment. Which is odd beause I never even met him as a person, just knew the public persona he created. But I like to think he is pretty similar to his stage self. He had a wonderfully twisted mind and its gone to waste. Looks like rock n roll afterlife just got alot more interesting. To sum this up, he was a god among men and he will be missed. Do me a favor and listen some Cramps songs. If ya cant dig him ya cant dig nuthin....
